What it takes to be a ShingleMaster PREMIER

CertainTeed's PREMIER requirements are the most stringent in residential roofing. Every box below has to be ticked — and stay ticked, year after year, through annual re-accreditation.

75% of installers + every supervisor are Master Craftsman

Each individual must pass an exam on the Master Craftsman Shingle Applicator's Manual (SAM) — installation best practices for every CertainTeed residential roofing product, the Integrity Roof System, and Flintlastic SA low-slope roofing.

2+ Master Craftsman Shingle Quality Specialists

Two or more Nest employees have earned the Shingle Quality Specialist designation by passing a test on the CertainTeed Shingle Technology Manual.

Continuing education

Two or more continuing-education credits maintained, demonstrating ongoing commitment to industry best practices.

Owner Business Fiscal Responsibility exam

The company owner has passed CertainTeed's Business Fiscal Responsibility™ exam — sound financial practices and responsible business management.

Insurance + 5+ years in business

Workers' compensation (as required by law) and liability insurance covering roofing. Five-plus years in business, or a year as ShingleMaster PRO, or comparable industry experience CertainTeed accepts.

Code of Ethics + Customer TrackRecord

Signed Code of Ethics agreement plus a 4-or-higher customer satisfaction rating (5-point scale) measured by CertainTeed's Customer TrackRecord™ surveys on every SureStart PLUS install.

The Integrity Roof System

Roofs fail when the system fails — not when one shingle does. The Integrity Roof System is CertainTeed's complete six-component package, required for the SureStart PLUS 5-STAR Warranty. Plus all metal flashings (step, sidewall, chimney, drip edge, skylight) must be replaced — not just touched up.

CertainTeed Integrity Roof System illustration showing the six numbered roof system components: waterproofing underlayment, water-resistant underlayment, shingle starter, shingles, ventilation, and hip & ridge
1

Waterproofing Underlayment

Self-adhering membrane installed at vulnerable areas — eaves, valleys, around penetrations. Stops wind-driven rain and ice-dam backups from reaching the roof deck.

2

Water-Resistant Underlayment

Synthetic underlayment over the rest of the deck. Acts as a secondary water barrier and protects the roof during install before shingles go on.

3

Shingle Starter

Designed to work in tandem with the field shingles for optimal sealing along the eaves and rakes — the highest-wind-load areas of the roof.

4

Shingles

CertainTeed's Good–Better–Best lineup. Nest's tier ladder uses Landmark AR (Base), Landmark PRO (Preferred), Belmont (Premium), and Grand Manor (Deluxe) — see /roofing-pricing.

5

Ventilation

Balanced ridge + intake ventilation. Without proper airflow, even premium shingles age 30–40% faster from heat and moisture buildup in the attic.

6

Hip & Ridge

Designer hip and ridge cap shingles that match your shingle line. Required for the SureStart PLUS warranty — no 3-tab leftovers cut down to fit.

SureStart™ PLUS 5-STAR Warranty

The strongest warranty CertainTeed offers. SureStart PLUS covers you for up to 50 years on materials and labor — full replacement value, including tear-off and disposal — in the event of a manufacturing defect. 5-STAR coverage stays full-value while standard warranties fade

Year-over-year payout in the event of a manufacturing defect, assuming 2% annual inflation on replacement cost. With a standard limited warranty, the payout drops to prorated coverage after year 10. With SureStart PLUS 5-STAR, you're paid the full projected replacement cost for the entire 50 years.

XT™25 shingles carry 25 years with 5-STAR coverage including the features above. Patriot® shingles require the manufacturing defect to cause leaks for the warranty to apply. Low-slope sections roofed with Flintlastic® SA or SMARTCOAT™ get matching 5-STAR-period coverage; residential shingles must be 1.5× the amount of low-slope square footage submitted.

Nest Exteriors team — CertainTeed ShingleMaster PREMIER credentialed Northern Virginia roofer

Why Nest is the contractor to work with in NoVA

  • 10+ years in business. Started in 2014 (originally JGL Roofing), rebranded to Nest Exteriors. Same crews and ownership the whole way — no recent flip, no out-of-state acquisition.
  • 4,126+ projects in NoVA. Loudoun, Fairfax, Prince William, Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church. We know each AHJ's inspectors, the pitch profiles common in each subdivision, and the HOA shingle-approval rules.
  • 218+ Google reviews · 5.0 average. These are the customer-review numbers that gate PREMIER status — CertainTeed's Customer TrackRecord audits them. We don't buy or solicit fake reviews.
  • Class-A Virginia license · BBB Accredited. Fully bonded, $2M general liability + workers' comp on every crew. Baseline for any reputable Virginia roofer.
  • Transparent pricing online. Most NoVA roofers won't put a number on a website. We will — see /roofing-pricing for the full Nest Shingle System ranges (Base / Preferred / Premium / Deluxe). The price you see is the price we install for, no bait-and-switch.
  • Locally owned, no high-pressure sales. No same-day discounts, no “sign tonight or lose the price” theatrics, no commission-driven door-to-door pitches. The estimator will tell you when a repair is the smarter call than a replacement.
